Project:
Cordless ceramic Kettle
2009
Clay, the most basic of
sustainable materials, earns its place in the modern kitchen. XYZ's
cordless kettle houses the heating element and the ceramic
construction simulates a tea pot. The user can heat water and take
the kettle directly to the dinner table without having to decanter
it into a more visually pleasing vessel. Individual bespoke designs
can be made to suit specific contexts, such as the interior design
criteria and colour of a kitchen or coffee tables.. |

Racetec
Project:
Event logging chip
2009
Racetec
is a supplier of electronic timing
chips for sporting events. The above chips design caters for harsh operating
conditions experienced during cycling, running and swimming such as
salt water and high speed impact. Although the product is
rugged in its construction, special attention was paid to usability.
The product can be assembled on a bicycle's axel or on the
users shoe. Unlike competing products on the market, the clipping mechanism allows for a variety
of orientations and does not chaff the user when in use. |

Project:
Yebo electronic
lock
2009
The
Yebo electronic lock is composed of an electronic key, and an
electronic plug that is fitted to a variety of conventional locks. A
lock is opened in a conventional manner: an authorized key is
inserted and turned, and the lock opens. When a new lock is acquired
the owner inserts the key into the lock, making it the lock’s “master
key” and making it the only key allowed to access the lock. In
addition to opening the lock, the master key can then be used to
issue authorization to other keys, revoke authorizations, or “wipe”
the lock, in effect returning it to a “new” state. A master key
can also create new master keys, in effect granting full control of
the lock to other keys. The key is the size of a car-key and
contains a battery which powers the locks. It can contain a small
SIM-sized smart-card on which authorizations are stored, so that if
a key is damaged or a new key is purchased the card can easily be
switched to a new key. A key can store about 130 authorizations, and
a lock can issue about 240 authorizations. A key’s battery
typically lasts for several years. |

Consortium
Project: Plant
armour
2003
Plant Armour protects and nurtures plants in a variety of
ways. By firstly creating a physical barrier between the
plant and the surrounding environment, rodents and other
predators will not be able to consume the sapling. The
greenhouse effect of the chamber retains moisture and the
sky light opening encourages plant growth.
