The
Stopak Jumbo Inflator is custom designed to inflate dunnage bags,
which are used to fill voids between merchandise packed into
containers, trucks and the holds of ships. Once inflated the bags
prevent the merchandise from shifting and ultimately being damaged
during transit. Unique to Stopak’s Jumbo inflator, a digital
pressure sensor and electronic switching valve ensures a predefined
pressure is maintained for all bags during multiple cargo loads. The
user can initiate inflation and then focus on other activities (fire
and forget). When the bag reaches a preset pressure it automatically
shuts off.

Modular traffic light
2007
In probing the existing
technology, Modular Traffic Light Systems (MTLS) found the biggest
constraint to low-cost maintenance and rapid repair to be the fact
that the lights incorporate high-impact-resistant poles. When
damaged, the poles require a significant amount of time and effort
to repair, often resulting in traffic congestion and even further
crashes. In addition, an impact with the poles often causes injury
to motorists and damage to vehicles as well as pavements. The MTLS
solution on the other hand replaces the poles with round segments on
top of each other and runs a tensioned cable down the centre
tensioning the unit into a rigid structure. This allows for rapid
deployment and in the event of damage, only the certain areas need
to be replaced.

Zebra E1/T1 Gateway
2007
The
Zebra E1/T1 Gateway is a media gateway that serves as a bridge
between computers and telephone networks. It allows for flexible,
distributable communication systems architecture with unlimited
scalability. The gateway translates communications traffic from
E1/T1 time division multiplexing networks to TCP/IP over gigabit per
second Ethernet. It creates a myriad of opportunities for software
engineers to access the telephony market and develop new
applications and value-added services required by today's converging
telecommunications networks.

Product: Rapid Deployment Unit
(RDU)
2004
Tracking freight presents a variety of challenges. Harsh operating
environments with extreme temperatures, rain, snow, random bumps and vibrations
and theft require well considered design and engineering solutions.
The Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) designed for Astrata temporarily
"sticks" to
vehicle roofs using a rare earth magnet assembly and a discreet tamper proof
mechanism (see cut away) detects any unauthorized removal of the product during the
freights journey.

Forecourt equipment
2001
Shell approached XYZ to redesign their forecourt equipment. The
scope of work originated from an umbrella project of improved
customer satisfaction, which had a direct impact on forecourt
efficiency. Research into all levels of forecourt personnel from
attendant to managerial positions helped identify equipment and
system requirements, which helped to drive the design from a "hands
on" approach.

Digital compass
1997
the
HMO Flux Gate compass represents two years development into a system
that can accurately display direction to an accuracy of 0.01
degrees. The sensor is connected to a gimbal mechanism and floats
in a dampening liquid (Note unit is opened up). In times of extreme
temperatures the IP68 rated enclosure is designed to automatically
expand and contract, to counteract changes in liquid volume .

Rugged housing
2004
The Control Instruments
housing provides a waterproofing specification of IP67 and impact
protection for sensitive interior components. The design allows for
ease of installation via connector sub-assemblies that are potted
and pre-assembled.

GSM marine
2000
Thales-GSM Marine
is a cost effective management solution for fleet operators and
fishery authorities that require positional information for
improved asset management and monitoring, control and
surveillance procedures. The unit would be used on small vessels
(under twenty meters) and complies with a waterproofing
specification of IP 67.

meter
1994
Electricity payment through remote meters can be problematic for
the user and the supplier. Confusing interfaces coupled with a
"grudge" purchase can be alleviated with intuitive and ergonomic
interfaces. Tamper proofing is of priority in Africa
due to the high level of energy theft and the potential shocks
that can
occur.
